Founded since 2009, read below of just how The Urban Initiative has touched lives and communities one person at a time.
Shakira Cochran and Anyala Patton are students at International Academy Charter school in Flint, MI.
They have been attending there since Kindergarten. They both have taken Spanish classes since they were Kindergarteners.
The Urban Initiative mentored these two young ladies who are now freshmans.
They spend a day a month to meet at the Flint Public Library and have Spanish conversations.
Shakira said, “We love meeting and speaking Spanish with the mentor for the Urban Initiative, in our classrooms we only read the books, but really don’t get a chance to speak it one on one in a conversation.”
Anyalah Patton said, “It makes me more confident to speak Spanish to my teacher and I feel comfortable now”.
